Program Description

This symposium is organized by the editorial team of Movement Disorders, the official journal of the International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society. The symposium will explore the biological underpinnings of Parkinson’s disease (PD), the neurobiological basis for current and emerging treatments, and the mechanisms responsible for disease complications and adverse responses to therapy

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this activity, learners will be able to:

1. Describe the genetics and cell biology of PD, including population-specific genetics and common abnormalities associated with GBA and LRRK2 variants.

2. Report the latest research findings on plasticity and dyskinesias, including striatal signaling, cellular transcriptomics, and novel therapeutic approaches.

3. Understand the experimental platforms currently being deployed in the study of PD, including induced pluripotent stem cell (IPSC) models, brain function imaging, and neuromodulation techniques.

4. Appreciate the manuscript submission opportunities afforded by the translational scientific scope of the peer-reviewed journal Movement Disorders.


INTENDED AUDIENCE

This activity is intended for students, postdocs, faculty, and others interested in translational research aspects of PD.
