Program Description

The MDS-AOS Movement Disorders for General Practitioners Course is a two-day, online program for general practitioners which will focus on the practical approach to common movement disorders. Through pre-recorded lectures, patient video demonstrations, and interactive discussions, participants will learn to recognize hallmark clinic features of common movement disorders, identify red flags, and manage straight forward cases.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Identify hallmark clinical features and red flags for common movement disorders, including Parkinson’s disease, tremors, dystonia, chorea, tics, myoclonus, and functional movement disorders.
  2. Describe a structured approach to history-taking and neurological examination and key diagnostic clues to narrow the differential diagnosis.
  3. List appropriate first-line treatment options for selected movement disorders that can be managed in general practice and determine when referral to a movement disorder specialist is indicated.


INTENDED AUDIENCE

This activity is intended for general neurologists, primary care clinicians, fellows, clinical research fellows, and medical graduate students with an interest in current clinical trends and approaches for diagnosis and treatment of movement disorders.
