Program Description

The MDS-ES Movement Disorders Emergencies online course is a focused, two-day virtual program designed for clinicians and healthcare professionals involved in the acute care of movement disorder patients. Through expert-led sessions, interactive clinical cases, and real-time discussions, the course will provide a comprehensive overview of urgent and life-threatening complications related to Parkinson’s disease, hyperkinetic disorders, and drug-induced syndromes.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this activity, learners will be able to:

1. Recognize and differentiate key movement disorder emergencies, including acute parkinsonism, status dystonicus, and functional movement disorders.
2. Apply appropriate management strategies for acute non-motor symptoms and device-related complications in Parkinson’s disease and other movement disorders.
3. Identify and treat hyperkinetic movement disorder emergencies, such as tremor, myoclonus, dystonia, and tic-related crises.
4. Understand the clinical presentation and management of drug-induced emergencies, including Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome and Serotonin Syndrome.
5. Engage in clinical decision-making through interactive case discussions, improving readiness for real-world emergency scenarios.

INTENDED AUDIENCE

This activity is intended for clinicians, fellows, and medical residents with an interest in approaches for diagnosis and treatment of movement disorders emergencies.
