Program Description

This regional, in-person course will provide a structured, practical introduction to the diagnosis and management of common movement disorders for early career clinicians and scientists in the Asia–Oceania region. Through didactic lectures, interactive case discussions, patient grand rounds, debates, and AOS SYNERGIES Junior Faculty abstract presentations, participants will learn to recognize key phenomenology, apply diagnostic frameworks, and implement context-appropriate treatment strategies across diverse practice settings.

This program is in partnership with the Philippine Neurological Association (PNA)

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this activity, learners will be able to:

1. Define the major categories of hypokinetic and hyperkinetic movement disorders and describe their characteristic clinical features

2. Identify key historical and examination findings that differentiate Parkinson disease and atypical parkinsonism from other movement disorders

3. Describe a stepwise approach to constructing a focused differential diagnosis and selecting appropriate basic investigations for common movement disorders in everyday practice

4. List first-line pharmacologic, non-pharmacologic, and rehabilitation strategies for Parkinson disease and selected hyperkinetic disorders, taking into account regional resource constraints

5. Relate emerging tools such as genetic testing and digital biomarkers to current clinical decision-making in movement disorders care


INTENDED AUDIENCE

This activity is intended for general neurologists, clinical fellows, neurology residents, internal medicine residents, researchers, and allied health professionals with an interest in current clinical trends and approaches for diagnosis and treatment of movement disorders.
