Program Description

The MDS Presidential Perspective: Musings on Disease Modification for Parkinson's Disease - Presented by Dr. Anthony Lang webinar will summarize the reasons for believing that "one drug will not fit all" for disease modification in Parkinson's disease and will highlight the related hypothesis that initial involvement of the substantia nigra (e.g., Braak Stage 3) may trigger an accelerated process driven by factors unique to dopaminergic neurons independent of the status of alpha synuclein aggregation.

Course Purpose

The primary purpose of this webinar is to provide information on disease modification in Parkinson's disease.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity learners will be able to:

1. Understand the various types of heterogeneity of Parkinson’s disease

2. Recognize the need to consider combinations of disease modifying therapies (i.e. cocktails)

3. Consider the possibility that the initial involvement of dopaminergic neurons in PD may trigger an accelerated process that may proceed independent of ongoing spread and toxicity of alpha synuclein

Intended Audience

This activity is intended for clinical and basic neuroscientists interested in disease modification in Parkinson’s disease.

Method of Participation

The course must be attended in their entirety. Partial credit is not available.
