Program Description

The MDS-ES and EHDN Joint Online Course Series: Huntington's Disease: From Foundational Principles to Assessment and Treatment is an opportunity for neurologists, neuropsychiatrists, movement disorders specialists, and other healthcare professionals who are improving their knowledge of Huntington’s disease (HD) to receive in-depth information from internationally recognized Huntington’s disease experts.

Course Purpose

The primary purpose of this program is to provide information on foundational principles, assessment and management of Huntington's disease.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Describe genetics and basic biology in Huntington’s disease
  2. Identify the main motor and behavioral aspects of Huntington’s disease
  3. Propose a differential diagnosis for patients with chorea
  4. Demonstrate a systematic approach to assessment and treatment of  patients with Huntington’s disease
  5. Identify opportunities to improve communication with Huntington disease families and caregivers
  6. Design, review and modify a patient management plan

Intended Audience

This activity is intended for for all healthcare professionals who are interested in specializing in movement disorders, and young neurologists who are already training in movement disorders.

Interactive Sessions

Lectures will be pre-recorded in advance and live streamed on the dates of the program with an interactive question and answer session immediately following the recorded lectures. Attendees are able to submit questions to the expert panel in real time.

The MDS-ES and EHDN Joint Online Course Series will take place across three sessions.

Session 1: Foundational Principles of Huntington's Disease
Friday, October 8, 2021: 16:00-20:00 CEST

Session 1 will present foundational knowledge of HD including genetics, basic biology, neuropathology; clinical phenotypes and differential diagnosis. 

Session 2: Assessment of Huntington's Disease
Friday, October 15, 2021: 16:00-20:00 CEST

Session 2 will present a systematic approach for assessment of patients with HD and cover practical information of setting up a clinic and cooperation with patients’ families and carers. 

Session 3: Management Options for Huntington's Disease
Friday, October 22, 2021: 16:00-20:00 CEST

Session 3 will discuss management of HD including pharmacological, non-pharmacological and palliative care, and present a look to the treatment landscape of the future of HD management.
