Program Description

Led by internationally recognized movement disorder experts, the sixth annual MDS-PAS Movement Disorders School for Neurology Residents will be held virtually and offer broad education on movement disorders, the latest research, patient examinations, discussion on potential career paths in the field, and a participant video case competition.

Course Purpose

The primary purpose of this course is to provide information on Parkinson's disease, Function, and Structure of Basal Ganglia, Motor features in early and advanced Parkinson’s disease, Non-motor features in Parkinson’s disease, Botulinum toxin: Science and practical application, Deep brain stimulation: Science and practical application, health care disparities and more.

A highlight of the course is the patient clinical rounds where experts examine patients with different types of movement disorders.

In addition, students are encouraged to submit their own patient case presentation, prior to the course, to be considered for the video case competition. This session will provide an opportunity for students to hear how the panel of experts evaluate cases.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, learners will be able to:
1. Identify a patient with a movement disorder
2. Recognize a diagnosis on straightforward movement disorders case
3. Propose a differential diagnosis on more complex movement disorders patients
4. Summarize a movement disorders case history
5. Design, review and modify a patient treatment plan

Intended Audience

This activity is intended for
• First to fourth-year general neurology residents who are undecided on a sub-specialty
• Fourth-year medical students
• Nurse practitioners and other health care professional trainees interested in learning about movement disorders
• Those who reside within the MDS-Pan American Section that includes USA, Canada, Mexico, Central/South America and the Caribbean

 

Ineligibility criteria - Do not apply if you:
Reside outside of the MDS-Pan American region, which includes the USA, Canada, Mexico, Central/South American, and the  Caribbean
