Program Description

This MDS Curriculum Track "Pathophysiology of Dystonia" features 1 e-learning module, 2 lectures, and 7 selected articles presented by global experts. This curriculum provides advanced-level content to expert-level learners. Upon conclusion of this course, learners are able to describe a variety of etiological factors leading to dystonia including idiopathic, genetic, and acquired cases. Additionally, learners will learn about the genotypic and phenotypic animal models that provide insight into the pathophysiological basis for dystonia.

Course Purpose

The primary purpose of this program is to advanced-level content that provides the learner information regarding the pathophysiology of dystonia. 

Learning Objectives

At the completion of this curriculum track, participants will be able to: 

1. Describe the variety of etiological factors leading to dystonia including idiopathic, genetic, and acquired causes.

2. Evaluate the genotypic and phenotypic animal models that provide insight into the pathophysiological basis of dystonia.

3. Identify the anatomical and physiological abnormalities in dystonia that lead to its conception as a network disorder.

Intended Audience

The activity is intended for experienced and expert-level clinicians, researchers, and health professionals.

Hardware and Software Requirement

1. Active Internet connection (DSL or Cable). Dial-up connection will have constant buffering problem.

2. Compatible with Windows PC and MAC (256 MB of RAM or higher)

3. Activity is best viewed on Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome.

4. Adobe Flash Player 12.0 (or higher).

5. Adobe Reader to print certificate.
