The MDS-AS African Multicenter Movement Disorders Grand Rounds course consists of 5-independent topics organized throughout the year in collaboration with multiple centers from the African Section including: Ain Shams University (Cairo, Egypt) Stellenbosch University (Capetown, South Africa) and Tunis El Manar University (Tunis, Tunisia). Each 2-hour session covers a focused lecture topic by a special guest lecturer followed by an interactive Grand Round in which regionally specific movement disorder cases from different centers within the African Section are presented for expert discussion...

Course Purpose

The primary purpose of this course is to provide education in the field of movement disorders and a live forum for African participants to discuss regionally-specific movement disorder cases on related course topics. This course is comprised of 5 independent sessions with topics focused on: infection related movement disorders, Ataxia, Autoimmune movement disorders, Functional Movement Disorders and Paroxysmal Movement Disorders and its mimics.

 

Registration Fees:

Member: $15 USD

Non-Member: $50 USD

No-Fee Member: $0 USD

Registration is for the entire series. Participants can register throughout the series and access past sessions on-demand.

*Non-members from the MDS-African Section can apply for a FREE No-Fee membership with MDS and register for this course at no cost. Must apply for membership no later than 2 weeks in advance of the session.


Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity learners will be able to:

  1. Summarize basic knowledge on fundamental movement disorder topics.
  2. Implement clinical skills, including history taking and examining patients through cases discussion.
  3. Identify the different types and phenomenology of movement disorders cases.
  4. Evaluate varied examination approaches to movement disorders cases.
  5. Foster collaborative networks with African centers, senior experts, and peers through shared experiences, learning and case discussions.

Intended Audience

This activity is intended for movement disorder specialists, general neurologists, primary care physicians, clinical fellows, and neurology residents who are interested in specializing in movement disorders.

Hardware and Software Requirement

1. Active Internet connection (DSL or Cable). Dial-up connection will have constant buffering problem.

2. Compatible with Windows PC and MAC (256 MB of RAM or higher)

3. Activity is best viewed on Internet Explorer 9.0 or higher, Safari 5.0 or higher and Firefox 29.0 or higher

4. Adobe Flash Player 12.0 (or higher).
