Program Description

The MDS-PAS Video Recording Movement Disorders Patients: Techniques and Protocols course will provide an overview of various recommendations for the recording of patients with movement disorders.  Given that the study of Movement Disorders patients is by definition a visually based field, the accurate diagnosis of the nature and type of the abnormal movements is of critical importance.  No words can convey what a well-composed video can reveal, but often obtaining a high-quality video can be challenging.  Modern video technology has allowed experts to expand their influence in education, research, and clinical care by capturing the most important aspects of each patient for widespread discussion and analysis.  There are few guides as to how to optimally obtain the best video for each patient, with consideration to the specific type of movement disorder, circumstances of videotaping, and technical aspects of videotaping.  Technical, ethical, and practical advice from published experts and experienced clinicians will guide course participants to improve their videotaping skills for optimal impact and assure a quality database of videos for multiple uses.  The approach of the course presumes that viewers are already familiar with fundamental movement disorder phenomenology.
