Course Purpose

The primary purpose of this course is to address the knowledge gap regarding the basics of movement disorders focusing on the evaluation, diagnoses, and treatment of Parkinson’s disease, tremor, myoclonus, chorea, tics disorders, and dystonia. The course was designed for general practitioners currently practicing in Africa.

 

This course will take place over two days – one dedicated to English language instruction, the other exclusively in French. The course consists of a series of didactic lectures, interactive question and answer sessions and video case presentations by faculty. The course lecture topics covered are the same for each course day.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity learners will be able to:

  1. Describe diagnostic approach of Parkinson’s disease, tremor, myoclonus, chorea, tics disorders, and dystonia
  2. Identify differential diagnosis of Parkinsonism
  3. Summarize treatment options for Parkinson’s disease, tremor, myoclonus, chorea, tics disorders, and dystonia
