Program Description

The MDS-AS 2nd Virtual Interactive Course: Principles of Movement Disorders is a 10-week course comprised of 5 module topics, each topic structured over a two-week period with all course content and interactions occurring entirely via the LMS course platform. This innovative course format features topics led by international movement disorder experts on the basics of movement disorders, including Parkinson's disease, atypical and acquired parkinsonism, tremor, dystonia, chorea, drug induced movement disorders, myoclonus, tics and pediatric movement disorders.

Course Purpose

The primary purpose of this course is to provide an overview of various Movement Disorders. This 10 week course is different than previous online courses and consists of 5 modular topics, each topic structured over a two-week period as follows:

  1. Movement Disorders (Clinical Approaches): May 5, 2022 - May 18, 2022
  2. Parkinson's Disease and Parkinsonism: May 19, 2022 - June 1, 2022
  3. Management of Parkinson's Disease: June 2, 2022 - June 15, 2022 
  4. Hyperkinetic Movement Disorders (Dystonia; Chorea/Drug Induced): June 16, 2022 - June 29, 2022
  5. Hyperkinetic Movement Disorders Continued (Myoclonus, Tremor, Tics and Pediatric Movement Disorders): June 30, 2022 - July 13, 2022

Please note registration is for the entire course duration (May 5 - July 13). Please also note registration capacity is limited to keep group size small.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity learners will be able to:

  1. Summarize the approach to correct history of patients with movement disorders
  2. Examine a patient with a movement disorder
  3. Identify the causes and correct management of movement disorders
  4. Compose a formal case presentation
  5. Join collaborate discussions and consultations amongst peers

Intended Audience

This activity is intended for general neurologists, movement disorders fellows, clinical scientists, senior and young neurology residents interested in specializing in movement disorders.

Method of Participation

Participants must complete an evaluation for each session they attend to receive continuing medical education credit. Your chosen session(s) must be attended in their entirety. Partial credit for individual sessions is not available.

This 10-week course consists of 5 module topics, each topic structured over a two week period with all course content and interactions occurring entirely via the LMS course platform through lectures, participants' completion of independent work and group activities moderated by faculty, and continuous dialoguing between expert faculty, participants, and peers via the course discussion board as follows:

 

Week 1: Module Release

Day 1: Lectures made available for on-demand viewing; supplemental resources posted for additional education

Day 1 - 7: Participants will watch lectures on demand, complete supplemental resources for additional education and submit questions/comments/case presentations to faculty via the Ask The Expert Feature on the LMS course platform.

 

Week 2: Interactive Components 

Day 8 - 14: Throughout this week participants will complete independent work and group activities moderated by faculty, prepare interesting cases for discussion and submit Ask the Expert questions/comments to faculty for individualized feedback and expert commentary. Replies from faculty will be posted on the course discussion board for all participants to view and further dialogue.
