Program Description

The MDS-AOS Parkinson’s Disease Treatment and Advanced Therapies course will cover the current treatment options for Parkinson’s disease. The course aims to provide participants with practical strategies for managing the motor and non-motor symptoms of Parkinson’s disease. In addition this course will discuss advanced therapies, including infusion therapies, neuromodulation and focused ultrasound lesioning.

Course Purpose

The primary purpose of this course is to provide participants with practical strategies for managing the motor and non-motor symptoms of Parkinson’s disease.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity learners will be able to:

  1. Identify the current pharmacological agents available for motor symptoms of Parkinson’s disease
  2. Describe the role of exercise in the management of Parkinson’s disease
  3. Discuss the strategies for managing non-motor symptoms of Parkinson’s disease
  4. Identify the patients that can benefit from infusion therapy, DBS, and lesioning therapy
  5. Summarize the latest available knowledge about gene and stem cell therapies for PD
