Program Description

MDS-PAS is pleased to announce the in-person MDS-PAS School for Young Neurologists - Presented in Spanish in Bogotá, Colombia. The goal of this course is to increase general enthusiasm for movement disorders as an exciting discipline in the field of neurology, and to raise the level of expertise such that students will be able to better manage their patients in clinical practice. We welcome a range of familiarity with movement disorders. With an emphasis on interactive learning: live patient examinations, small group participant video case presentations, networking and the opportunity to learn from international movement disorders experts in a small group environment makes this course unique.

 

As an application-based course, space is limited. Please submit your application early, for consideration. 

 

Language of course: The course will be presented in Spanish with a few talks presented in English, noted with an asterisk (*) in the program. Translation services will not be available.

Course Purpose

The primary purpose of this course is to provide Spanish education to young neurologists, in a small group environment, on Parkinson's disease and other Movement Disorders focused on hypokinetic and hyperkinetic topics.  


In addition, students are required to submit their own patient case presentation, prior to the course, for the video case session and competition. This small group session will provide an opportunity for students to hear how the experts evaluate cases. Members: $150 USD
No Fee Members: $125 USD

Non-Members: $200 USD

Non-Members wishing to apply for MDS Membership to receive the MDS Member rate for this course will need to apply for membership no later than two (2) weeks in advance of the session. 

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity learners will be able to: 

1. Examine a patient with a movement disorder

2. Summarize a diagnosis on straightforward movement disorders cases

3. Define a differential diagnosis on more complex movement disorders patients

4. Compose and present a movement disorders case history

Intended Audience

Young neurologists residing in Latin America who have: 

  • 5 years of completion of general neurological training
  • Already training in movement disorders
  • Neurology residents in their last two years of training

Assumption of Risk and Liability
Attendee assumes all risks and accepts sole responsibility for any injury (including, but not limited to, personal injury, disability, and death), illness, damage, loss, claim, liability or expense, of any kind, that they may experience or incur in connection with attending the MDS-PAS School for Young Neurologists.

 

The International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society’s Pan American (MDS-PAS) has taken preventative measures to reduce the spread of communicable disease including, but not limited to COVID-19 (“Communicable Disease”) at the MDS-PAS School for Young Neurologists. However, MDS cannot guarantee that attendees will not be exposed to or contract a Communicable Disease at the MDS-PAS School for Young Neurologists. Further, due to the nature of the facilities, services and programs offered at the MDS-PAS School for Young Neurologists, participants understand that attending the MDS-PAS School for Young Neurologists could increase their risk of contracting a Communicable Disease. Attendee agrees to abide by all applicable COVID-19-related requirements, advisories, policies, procedures, and protocols of the hotel and MDS-PAS as well as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the city of Bogota, the country of Colombia, and any other governmental authority for the duration of their stay. 

 

Attendee understands the risk that they may be exposed to or infected by a Communicable Disease by attending the MDS-PAS School for Young Neurologists and that such exposure or infection may result in quarantine requirements, serious illness, permanent disability and/or death. Attendee further understands that the risk of becoming exposed to or infected by a Communicable Disease at the MDS-PAS School for Young Neurologists may result from the actions, omissions or negligence of themselves and others, including, but not limited to, MDS-PAS, its officers, employees, contractors, agents, representatives, sponsors, other participants, and any owners and lessors of premises used to conduct the MDS-PAS School for Young Neurologists (“Releasees”). ATTENDEE KNOWINGLY AND FREELY ASSUMES ALL SUCH RISKS, BOTH KNOWN AND UNKNOWN, EVEN IF ARISING FROM THE NEGLIGENCE OF THE RELEASEES, and assumes full responsibility for their participation in the MDS-PAS School for Young Neurologists.
