Program Description

Since the first MDS-AOS Basic Science School in 2014, the MDS-AOS BSS has become a flagship educational course for young neurologists who are interested in Movement Disorders in MDS-AOS region. The aim of the course is to promote the next generation of scientists and young clinicians with interest in the recent advances of clinical and preclinical disciplines in Parkinson’s disease and movement disorders; to create a common language and generate ideas that will allow development of translational research projects by the next generation researchers in Parkinson disease and movement disorders. This course will attract more young clinicians and scientists focusing on Parkinson’s disease and movement disorders in the future.

In this year’s MDS-AOS Basic Science School, we will focus on learning about principles and applications of various scientific tools which can be used in the field of movement disorders. Invited speakers are distinguished specialists on their scientific topics. The participants could get insights and information to develop their own study ideas.

By registering for this course, you agree to the statement provided in the section below labeled 'Assumption of Risk and Liability - COVID'.

You cannot participate in this course
Registration is now closed. If you would like to register, please email education@movementdisorders.org for more information.
Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, learners will be able to:

1. Describe updates in the pathogenesis and treatment of Parkinson’s disease and related movement disorders

2. Analyze recent advances in the basic neuroscience field, including electrophysiology and molecular biology, which could be applied in movement disorder research

3. Establish a local and international network between young clinicians and researchers for facilitating future research in movement disorder field

Attendee assumes all risks and accepts sole responsibility for any injury (including, but not limited to, personal injury, disability, and death), illness, damage, loss, claim, liability or expense, of any kind, that they may experience or incur in connection with attending the MDS-AOS Basic Science Summer School: Translational Neurogenetics with Focus on Movement Disorders.

The International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society’s Asian and Oceanian Section (MDS-AOS) has taken preventative measures to reduce the spread of communicable disease including, but not limited to COVID-19 (“Communicable Disease”) at the MDS-AOS Basic Science Summer School: Translational Neurogenetics with Focus on Movement Disorders. However, MDS cannot guarantee that attendees will not be exposed to or contract a Communicable Disease at the MDS-AOS Basic Science Summer School: Translational Neurogenetics with Focus on Movement Disorders. Further, due to the nature of the facilities, services and programs offered at the MDS-AOS Basic Science Summer School: Translational Neurogenetics with Focus on Movement Disorders, participants understand that attending the MDS-AOS Basic Science Summer School: Translational Neurogenetics with Focus on Movement Disorders could increase their risk of contracting a Communicable Disease.

Attendee agrees to abide by all applicable COVID-19-related requirements, advisories, policies, procedures, and protocols of the hotel and MDS-AOS as well as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the city of Taguig City, Manila, Philippines, and any other governmental authority for the duration of their stay.

Attendee understands the risk that they may be exposed to or infected by a Communicable Disease by attending the MDS-AOS Basic Science Summer School: Translational Neurogenetics with Focus on Movement Disorders and that such exposure or infection may result in quarantine requirements, serious illness, permanent disability and/or death. Attendee further understands that the risk of becoming exposed to or infected by a Communicable Disease at the MDS-AOS Basic Science Summer School: Translational Neurogenetics with Focus on Movement Disorders may result from the actions, omissions or negligence of themselves and others, including, but not limited to, MDS-AOS, its officers, employees, contractors, agents, representatives, sponsors, other participants, and any owners and lessors of premises used to conduct the MDS-AOS Basic Science Summer School: Translational Neurogenetics with Focus on Movement Disorders (“Releasees”). ATTENDEE KNOWINGLY AND FREELY ASSUMES ALL SUCH RISKS, BOTH KNOWN AND UNKNOWN, EVEN IF ARISING FROM THE NEGLIGENCE OF THE RELEASEES, and assumes full responsibility for their participation in the MDS-AOS Basic Science Summer School: Translational Neurogenetics with Focus on Movement Disorders.
