Program Description

The course will run over two days, May 3 - 4, 2023 in Cape Town, South Africa, before and linking to the national annual neurology congress of the South African Neurology Society (NASA). Themes will include Parkinson’s disease, Parkinsonism, Tremor disorders and Dystonia.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity learners will be able to:

  1. Manage a patient with early onset Parkinson’s disease – deciding on early and late treatment options.
  2. Plan treatment for a patient with advanced Parkinson’s disease. Managing controversies like deciding on when to refer for device aided therapies and treating motor and non-motor complications.
  3. Manage a patient with poor levodopa response.
  4. Plan diagnostic testing and management of a patient with dystonia.
  5. Manage a patient with tremor from finding a diagnosis to treatment options in clinic.

Attendee assumes all risks and accepts sole responsibility for any injury (including, but not limited to, personal injury, disability, and death), illness, damage, loss, claim, liability or expense, of any kind, that they may experience or incur in connection with attending the MDS-AS Movement Disorders in the Clinic: A Case-Based Approach to Decision Making course.


The International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society’s African Section (MDS-AS) has taken preventative measures to reduce the spread of communicable disease including, but not limited to COVID-19 (“Communicable Disease”) at the MDS-AS Movement Disorders in the Clinic: A Case-Based Approach to Decision Making course. However, MDS cannot guarantee that attendees will not be exposed to or contract a Communicable Disease at the MDS-AS Movement Disorders in the Clinic: A Case-Based Approach to Decision Making course. Further, due to the nature of the facilities, services and programs offered at the MDS-AS Movement Disorders in the Clinic: A Case-Based Approach to Decision Making course, participants understand that attending the MDS-AS Movement Disorders in the Clinic: A Case-Based Approach to Decision Making course could increase their risk of contracting a Communicable Disease.
