Program Description

This module will deliver information on medication adherence in Parkinson's disease, aiming towards higher awareness, faster recognition and better management of suboptimal medication adherence. Using the evidence-based approach, we will examine direct and indirect methods commonly used in clinical and research practices to measure medication adherence in Parkinson's disease. Patient centered interventions currently available to promote medication adherence in Parkinson's disease will be discussed.

Course Purpose

This MDS Interactive module provides learners with an overview of medication adherence in Parkinson's disease including how to recognize and manage suboptimal medication adherence, methods to measure medication adherence, and patient centered interventions.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity learners will be able to:

1. Define the multidimensional aspects related to medication adherence behaviors in Parkinson's disase.
2. Recognize the prevalence, risk factors, screening strategies and reasons for medication adherence failure.
3. Discuss the available therapies in Parkinson's disease and the best approach/practical tips to implement tailored interventions to improve adherence in Parkinson's disease.

Intended Audience

This activity is intended for students, residents, primary care providers, internists, allied health, non-neurology specialists, and industry who have limited to no movement disorder experience.

Method of Participation

Your chosen sessions must be attended in their entirety. Partial credit of individual sessions is not available. If you are seeking continuing education credit for a specialty not listed in the Accreditation Statement, it is your responsibility to contact your licensing/certification board to determine course eligibility for your board requirement.
