Program Description

Led by internationally recognized movement disorder experts, the International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society's Pan American Section (MDS-PAS) 9th Annual Movement Disorders School for Neurology Residents offers a broad education on movement disorders, the latest research and potential career paths in the field. The goal of the course is to provide in-depth education on movement disorders and encourage neurology residents to consider specializing in the field.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this activity, learners will be able to:

1. Examine a patient with a movement disorder

2. Reach a diagnosis on straightforward movement disorders cases

3. Propose a differential diagnosis on more complex movement disorders patients

4. Present a movement disorders case history

5. Design, review and modify a patient treatment plan


INTENDED AUDIENCE

This activity is intended for General neurology residents (first-year interns, second-year and third-year) who are undecided in a sub-specialty and would like to learn about movement disorders.

Course Application Process

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
1. Only individuals residing in the MDS Pan American Section (MDS-PAS) can apply, with prioritization given to those that reside within the United States and Canada.
2. Applicants must be general neurology residents (first-year interns, second-year and third-year) who are undecided in a sub-specialty and would like to learn about movement disorders.
3. Individuals who previously attended this school in person between 2016-2023 are ineligible to apply.

Application Deadline: September 6, 2024 at 11:59 PM US Central Time


SELECTION PROCESS

Up to 100 participants will be selected. Acceptance notifications will be provided via email and on a rolling basis from July 1 - September 20, 2024. Selected participants must reply by the specified date noted in the acceptance letter to secure their spot.


SUPPORT FOR SELECTED PARTICIPANTS RESIDING IN UNITED STATES & CANADA

Selected participants will receive complimentary registration, round-trip economy airfare, and hotel accommodations. Airfare booking is arranged by MDS.


TRAVEL GRANTS FOR SELECTED PARTICIPANTS RESIDING IN LATIN AMERICA

A limited number of travel grants are available to those residing in Latin America. Selected participants will receive complimentary registration and hotel accommodations. Airfare and any other travel-associated expenses are the responsibility of the individual. The awarded travel grant is intended to help off-set the cost of travel expenses and will not be provided until after the conclusion of the course.

Participant Video Case Competition

In addition, students are encouraged to submit their own patient case presentation, prior to the course, to be considered for the video case competition. This session will provide an opportunity for students to hear how the panel of experts evaluate cases.
