Program Description

The MDS-ES Advanced DBS in Movement Disorders course is intended for neurologists, neurosurgeons, and nurse practitioners who are already involved in the care of patients with movement disorders and DBS surgery. The course will focus on updated standards of care in the preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative patient management, a comparison of programming options in different DBS devices, advanced programming including brain sensing, visualized programming tools, and troubleshooting.

Accreditation and Credit Designation

ACCREDITATION STATEMENT

The MDS-ES Advanced DBS in Movement Disorders, Grenoble, France, 10/17/2024-10/18/2024 has been accredited by the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME®) with 12 European CME credits (ECMEC®s). Each medical specialist should claim only those hours of credit that he/she actually spent in the educational activity.


CREDIT DESIGNATION STATEMENT

Through an agreement between the Union Européenne des Médecins Spécialistes and the American Medical Association, physicians may convert EACCME® credits to an equivalent number of AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Information on the process to convert EACCME® credit to AMA credit can be found at www.ama-assn.org/education/earn-credit-participation-international-activities.

Live educational activities, occurring outside of Canada, recognised by the UEMS-EACCME® for ECMEC®s are deemed to be Accredited Group Learning Activities (Section 1) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification Program of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this activity, learners will be able to: 

1. Revise the current indications and clinical outcomes of patients with movement disorders and DBS (focus on Parkinson’s disease, dystonia and tremor)

2. Revise recent developments in neurophysiology and their application in DBS

3. Compare and adapt advanced stimulation options

4.  Discuss troubleshooting options in case of side effects or other issues related to DBS.
