Program Description

This two-day course will have dedicated tracks for physicians and health professionals. The physician track will include sessions about manifestations and management of Parkinson's disease and other movement disorders, as well as hands-on workshops demonstrating Botulinum Toxin treatment. The health professionals track will comprise sessions on how to use and optimize Parkinson care by using various rehabilitation techniques and practical workshops to apply learned skills.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this activity, learners will be able to: 


Medical Track

1. Explain the clinical phenomenology of motor and non-motor symptoms in Parkinson’s disease.

2. Recite the treatments available for the management of motor and non-motor symptoms of Parkinson’s disease

3. Explain clinical phenomenology of non-Parkinsonian movement disorders

4. Apply treatment options for non-Parkinsonian movement disorders

5. Apply the skills for the use of Botulin Toxin in movement disorders


Rehabilitation Track

1. Recognize the clinical presentation, management and progression of PD.

2. Understand the rational of rehabilitative approaches in people with PD.

3. Describe the key areas of rehabilitation in people with PD.

4. Define a full subjective and objective assessment for a person with PD, using appropriate recommended measurement tools.

5. Describe the rational for designing and modifying a patient- specific treatment plan.

6. Identify strategies for collaborating with physicians and other health professionals.


INTENDED AUDIENCE

This activity is intended for physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists nurses and other allied health care professionals who would like the opportunity to enhance their knowledge and skills in treating people with Parkinson's disease.
