Program Description

The MDS-PAS Pediatric Movement Disorders Course will provide a state-of-the-art review of current practices, controversies, and active areas of research in pediatric movement disorders. This program will bring together the pediatric movement disorders community to discuss topics pertinent to specialists, neurologists, researchers, and clinicians from adjacent fields of neurosurgery and genetics.

ACCREDITATION STATEMENT

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME). The International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.


CREDIT DESIGNATION STATEMENT

The International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society designates this activity for a maximum of 11.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation.

All recommendations involving clinical medicine in MDS activities are based on evidence that is accepted within the profession of medicine as adequate justification for their indications and contraindications in the case of patients. All scientific research referred to, reported or used in CME in support or justification of a patient care recommendations conforms to the generally accepted standards of experimental design, data collection and analysis. Activities that promote recommendations, treatment or manners of practicing medicine not within the definition of CME or are knowing to have risks or dangers that outweigh the benefits or are knowing to be ineffective in the treatment of patients do not constitute valid CME.

Registration Desk & Lecture Hall: The registration desk is located in the main lobby. The lecture hall is located on the 4th floor.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

After participating in this activity, the learner will be able to:

1. Develop a framework for the application of deep brain stimulation in the treatment of status dystonicus, cerebral palsy, and hyperkinetic movement disorders

2. Define emerging disease-modifying therapies for genetic movement disorders

3. Summarize the current approach to managing status dystonicus and other movement disorder emergencies in children

4. Describe the expanding molecular and clinical spectrum of epilepsy-dyskinesia syndromes

5. Develop an approach to palliative care for progressive movement disorders and transition of care from pediatric to adult neurology
