LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this activity, learners will be able to: 

1. Summarize the epidemiology and pathophysiology of Parkinson’s disease.

2. Define the role of genetics, environmental risk factors, prodromal stage, and the unmet need for a biomarker development.

3. Describe the main motor and non-motor symptoms of Parkinson’s disease and examine a patient with Parkinson’s disease.

4. Discuss the differential diagnosis for Parkinson’s disease, recognize red flags in diagnosis, and summarize the ancillary investigations.

5. Identify available medical, surgical and non-medical treatments for motor symptoms of Parkinson’s disease.

6. Describe management of non-motor symptoms.


INTENDED AUDIENCE

This activity is intended for clinicians, students, residents, primary care providers, internists, allied health, non-neurology specialists, and industry who have limited experience with Parkinson's disease.


HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS

1. Active Internet connection (DSL or Cable). Dial-up connection will have constant buffering problem.

2. Compatible with Windows PC and MAC (256 MB of RAM or higher).

3. Activity is best viewed on Internet Explorer 9.0 or higher, Safari 5.0 or higher and Firefox 29.0 or higher.

4. Adobe Flash Player 12.0 (or higher).

5. Adobe Reader to print certificate.
