Program Description

This course is designed to enhance the knowledge and skills of allied health professionals in managing movement disorders through a case-based learning approach. Participants will engage with expert-led discussions on multidisciplinary care strategies, speech therapy interventions, and symptom management in Parkinson’s disease, atypical parkinsonism, functional and hyperkinetic movement disorders, and spastic movement disorders. The course will provide in-depth insights into clinical cases, focusing on evidence-based interventions and interdisciplinary collaboration.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this activity, learners will be able to: 

1. Define the clinical characteristics of Parkinson’s disease, atypical parkinsonism, hyperkinetic movement disorders, and spastic movement disorder.

2. Identify motor and non-motor symptoms relevant to physiotherapy, speech and language therapy, and clinical neuropsychology.

3. Critically evaluate case presentations and propose management plans.

4. Compare and contrast different therapeutic strategies for movement disorders, including symptoms such as dystonia, tremor, ataxia, apraxia, and dysphagia.

5. Develop strategies to promote interdisciplinary collaboration and improve multidisciplinary care settings.


INTENDED AUDIENCE

This activity is intended for movement disorders specialists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, and physio/physical therapists.
