Program Description

Mentorship is the guidance, influence and direction provided by a mentor to a mentee. A mentoring relationship is based on trust and goodwill and is usually a bi-directional effort where both stand to experience a myriad of benefits. The Mentorship domain will provide insight into the relationship between mentors and mentees through the experience of current leaders.

Course Purpose

The Mentorship Domain will provide insights into the benefits of a mentor relationship, the fundamentals of this relationship, best practices for maintaining this relationship and how to approach transition from a mentee to a mentor. 

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Introduce the concept of mentorship and why mentorship is important
  2. Describe the fundamentals to being an effective mentor/mentee
  3. Describe the rules of engagement in a mentor/mentee relationship: DOs and DONTs
  4. Evaluate approaches to navigating the transition from mentee to mentor

Intended Audience

This activity is intended for young and mid-career professionals.

Hardware and Software Requirement

1. Active Internet connection (DSL or Cable). Dial-up connection will have constant buffering problem.
2. Compatible with Windows PC and MAC (256 MB of RAM or higher)
3. Activity is best viewed on Internet Explorer 9.0 or higher, Safari 5.0 or higher and Firefox 29.0 or higher
4. Adobe Flash Player 12.0 (or higher).
5. Adobe Reader to print certificate.

Learners must complete the post-assessment (with a score of 80% or higher), evaluation, and claim your certificate.


Earning an MDS Career Development Digital Badge

Successfully complete all 5 Career Development Domains by receiving an 80% or higher on each assessment. Then complete a final assessment with a score of 80% or higher to earn your MDS Career Development Badge! (The final assessment may be attempted a maximum of 3 times.)
