Program Description

The MDS-ES School for Young Neurologists is an opportunity for young neurologists who are interested in specializing in Movement Disorders to receive in-depth instruction from internationally-recognized Movement Disorders experts. Students will attend large lectures and panel discussions with question and answer sessions and will have the opportunity to examine patients with movement disorders and engage in a differential diagnosis with the international experts. Students will present their own case-study videos to small groups for discussion and critique, and will be involved in group presentations and case discussions. Topics will focus on parkinsonism, hyperkinetic disorders and complex issues in movement disorders.

Course Purpose

The primary purpose of this course is to provide young neurologists an introduction to movement disorders. 


The MDS-ES School for Young Neurologists is an application based program.  Applicants accepted into the program will be notified and provided with additional information on how to register.  Registration fees are indicated below for those accepted into the program.


Registration Fees
Members: $250 USD
Non-Members: $300 USD

Non-Members wishing to apply for MDS Membership to receive the MDS Member rate for this course will need to apply for membership no later than two (2) weeks in advance of the session. 


Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity learners will be able to: 

1. Examine a patient with a movement disorder

2. Reach a diagnosis on straightforward movement disorders cases

3. Propose a differential diagnosis on more complex movement disorders patients

4. Present a movement disorders case history

5. Design, review and modify a patient treatment plan

Intended Audience

This course is intended for young neurologists within five years of completion of general neurological training who are interested in specializing in movement disorders, and young neurologists who are already training in movement disorders.

Assumption of Risk and Liability COVID Vaccination

Assumption of Risk and Liability
Attendee assumes all risks and accepts sole responsibility for any injury (including, but not limited to, personal injury, disability, and death), illness, damage, loss, claim, liability or expense, of any kind, that they may experience or incur in connection with attending the MDS-ES School for Young Neurologists.

 

The International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society’s European Section (MDS-ES) has taken preventative measures to reduce the spread of communicable disease including, but not limited to COVID-19 (“Communicable Disease”) at the MDS-ES School for Young Neurologists. However, MDS cannot guarantee that attendees will not be exposed to or contract a Communicable Disease at the MDS-ES School for Young Neurologists. Further, due to the nature of the facilities, services and programs offered at the MDS-ES School for Young Neurologists, participants understand that attending the MDS-ES School for Young Neurologists could increase their risk of contracting a Communicable Disease. Attendee agrees to abide by all applicable COVID-19-related requirements, advisories, policies, procedures, and protocols of the hotel and MDS-ES as well as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the city of Berlin, the country of Germany, and any other governmental authority for the duration of their stay. 

 

Attendee understands the risk that they may be exposed to or infected by a Communicable Disease by attending the MDS-ES School for Young Neurologists and that such exposure or infection may result in quarantine requirements, serious illness, permanent disability and/or death. Attendee further understands that the risk of becoming exposed to or infected by a Communicable Disease at the MDS-ES School for Young Neurologists may result from the actions, omissions or negligence of themselves and others, including, but not limited to, MDS-ES, its officers, employees, contractors, agents, representatives, sponsors, other participants, and any owners and lessors of premises used to conduct the MDS-ES School for Young Neurologists (“Releasees”). ATTENDEE KNOWINGLY AND FREELY ASSUMES ALL SUCH RISKS, BOTH KNOWN AND UNKNOWN, EVEN IF ARISING FROM THE NEGLIGENCE OF THE RELEASEES, and assumes full responsibility for their participation in the MDS-ES School for Young Neurologists.

Visa Statement

MDS is able to provide participants with a Letter of Support and any course-related documentation needed to assist in obtaining a visa. Please note that MDS is unable to contact the Embassy on your behalf. It is the responsibility of each participant to make the necessary arrangements related to this process. However, if the official handling of your application needs further clarification, please have them email education@movementdisorders.org.

Registration Cancellation Policy

Registration may be cancelled up until 2 weeks before the course, minus a
$25 USD cancellation fee.  After this time, the registration fee is
nonrefundable.
